Undisputed WWE Championship

Sami Zayn is Undisputed WWE Champion on WWE's index. This file tracks the Fresno defense, the Charleston booking, and Crown Jewel, and it leaves unsourced reigns out.

Champion on file: Sami Zayn

  1. Start date not on file Cody Rhodes Length not on file

WWE's Crown Jewel preview says Rhodes retained this title against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42. That date is not in the sources used here.

  2. Start date not on file Sami Zayn Length not on file

The champions index lists Zayn. The preview says he reclaimed the title and does not date that win. He beat Je'Von Evans on Oct. 26.

    Source for this reign

WWE’s champions index lists Sami Zayn as Undisputed WWE Champion. That sentence is the whole current line this file will treat as settled. A start date for the reign is not on the pages cited here. The Crown Jewel preview says he reclaimed the title. It does not, in the copy used for this file, name the opponent or the night. Both are omitted. A roundup that offered a September date is not an allowed source, so the date is cut. The gap is marked here so a later editor does not “remember” it into the page.

The illustration is two masked wrestlers and blank plates. It is not the physical belt and not a portrait of the champion.

What the preview says about the recent past

WWE’s Crown Jewel page says Cody Rhodes retained this title against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42, and that Orton hit him with the championship and a punt after the match. Rhodes is not the champion on the current index. Zayn is. The preview uses the WrestleMania result as history inside the Rhodes-Orton Last Man Standing match, which is not a match for this belt. The file records the history because it is a sourced statement about the title. It does not build a reign table from it. Between WrestleMania 42 and Zayn’s name on the index, the changes are exactly the ones a source in this file describes, and that is only the word “reclaimed.”

The same preview books Reigns, World Heavyweight Champion, against Zayn on November 7 in Riyadh, champion versus champion. Two belts, one match, no advertised unification stipulation in the sentences used here. This file will not call it a unification. Reigns’s World Heavyweight Championship is a different title. It is mentioned because the match puts both champions in the ring. It does not get a full history in this document.

The television matches that touch the belt

On October 16, WWE’s SmackDown results say United States Champion Trick Williams confronted Zayn and then beat Johnny Gargano in a non-title match. The title on the line in that match was not this one. The confrontation is the start of the Charleston trail. On October 23, WWE says Zayn denied Williams a title shot, a tag match broke down, and Williams, Penta, and Rey Fenix beat Zayn, Gargano, and Ricky Saints. The results line says the win came one week before Williams’s Undisputed WWE Title match against Zayn on SmackDown. That is a booking. The October 30 card repeats it, with Fightful’s lineup as the second source. Until that show airs, the match is announced. A winner written now would be a fabricated result.

On October 26 in Fresno, the title was defended. WWE’s Raw results say Zayn beat Je’Von Evans with the Helluva Kick after Penta’s cash-in attempt was interrupted by Bron Breakker. The page summary calls the win controversial. The champion did not change. Penta’s contract is not described as cashed in. Evans is the challenger in that result and, with Penta, a tag challenger to the World Tag Team Champions at Crown Jewel. That tag match is not for this belt. It is context for why Fresno’s finish still matters on November 7. The Raw hub has the rest of the show, including matches that have nothing to do with this title.

How a change would be recorded

If Williams wins on October 30, the index line at the top of this file changes only when a sourced result says he won the title, and Zayn’s name comes off the current-champion field. The Crown Jewel preview would then be out of date, which is a correction or an update, not a quiet rewrite that pretends Riyadh always listed Williams. If Zayn wins and the Reigns match happens as advertised, the result belongs on a Crown Jewel results file first. This history page follows. The standards require the source in the body. The champions analysis is the cross-promotion view. The storylines piece is allowed to say the reign looks shaky. This page is allowed to say who holds it, who already failed to take it, and who is announced to try.

The challengers are not interchangeable. Evans got a result and lost. Williams has an announcement and no result. Reigns has an announcement on a different date, for a match that also involves his own title. Penta has a cash-in attempt that never became a match. A future editor who writes “Zayn beat his Crown Jewel challenger in Fresno” would be collapsing Evans and Reigns into one person. They are not. The Fresno win is evidence the title can survive a chaotic Raw. It is not evidence about Riyadh. Keep the names in separate sentences, the way the source pages do, and the file will stay usable after Friday even if Friday changes the champion. If the champion changes, copy the result line, change the current-champion field, and leave the old defenses in the body as history. Do not delete Evans to make the reign look cleaner. The mess is the reign.
