Analysis

Who holds the gold, as of October 28, and which reigns this desk will not date

A sourced pass at the WWE, NXT, and AEW champions named in promotion pages this week, with the reign dates and title changes that were cut on purpose.

The useful version of a champions list is the one that says where each name came from and which dates were refused. This is that list for October 28, 2026. WWE’s champions index is the backbone for the WWE and NXT lines. AEW’s October 21 and October 24 recaps are the backbone for the AEW lines. Money in the Bank, the Fresno results, the October 23 SmackDown results, and the Crown Jewel preview fill in changes and bookings. A secondary roundup that attached a day in August or September to a reign is not cited, even when the name matches the index. If the day is not on an allowed page, the day is not here.

The illustration at the top is a chair and three archetypes. It is not a champion and not a belt.

The two men’s world titles, and why they are on a collision course

Sami Zayn is Undisputed WWE Champion. Roman Reigns is World Heavyweight Champion. Both names are on the index, and both are booked against each other at Crown Jewel on November 7. The preview says Reigns beat CM Punk at WrestleMania for the World Heavyweight title and has been wrestling without his family in the match. It says Zayn reclaimed the Undisputed title. It does not date the reclaiming. The Undisputed file leaves that gap on purpose.

What the television record does date is the defense. On October 26 in Fresno, Zayn beat Je’Von Evans. WWE calls the pin controversial and describes Penta’s cash-in being stopped by Bron Breakker before it became a match. The title stayed. On October 30, the Charleston card has Zayn against Trick Williams, a match WWE’s October 23 results already named. Williams is United States Champion on the index. The Charleston stipulation, as written, is Zayn’s belt, not both. The read, and it is a read, is that Zayn can be champion on Friday morning and a different kind of champion-versus-champion participant on November 7, or he can lose the belt in West Virginia and force the Riyadh advertisement to change. The preview has not changed yet. The analysis is not allowed to pretend it has.

Reigns’s last sourced defense in this drop is Money in the Bank, October 10, where he beat LA Knight and retained. The 946 showed up afterward, and The Usos and Solo Sikoa met them. That is a post-match, not a title change. It is the reason the preview’s line about family staying out of his matches has something to bump against. The bump is context. It is not a spoiler.

Cody Rhodes is not on the index as a world champion. The preview says he retained the Undisputed title against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42. That is history inside a Last Man Standing match that is not for this belt. Leaving Rhodes off the current line is the point of checking the index instead of the most famous name in the preview.

The two women’s world titles

Liv Morgan is Women’s World Champion. Chelsea Green is WWE Women’s Champion. Crown Jewel books them against each other. Morgan’s reign, in WWE’s Money in the Bank results, started October 10 when she beat Stephanie Vaquer and Becky Lynch. The preview calls it her fourth reign. The earlier three are not itemized here. Vaquer was the champion in that triple threat. On October 26 she was not medically cleared, Lynch wrestled Morgan for the title, and Lynch won by disqualification. The belt stayed with Morgan. Tiffany Stratton, who won the women’s Money in the Bank contract the same night Morgan won the title, nearly cashed in and did not.

Green’s title is the other one. The preview says she won it at SummerSlam in a five-way ladder match and retained against Nia Jax through a broken orbital bone. Fightful’s October 30 lineup has her defending against Nikki Bella in Charleston. That is not the Women’s World Championship. The two defenses in one fortnight, if both happen, are the story. Only one of them is a result today, and it is Morgan’s disqualification retention, not Green’s.

The rest of the WWE index, in the index’s words

Intercontinental Champion: Chad Gable. On October 26 he was taken out at ringside in a tag loss. The results do not say he lost the title. United States Champion: Trick Williams, with the Charleston match noted above. Women’s Intercontinental Champion: Raquel Rodriguez, who lost a non-title match to IYO SKY on the same Raw and then, with Roxanne Perez, attacked her. Women’s United States Champion: Jacy Jayne. The index says so. This drop does not have a match result for her, so the file stops at the name.

World Tag Team Champions: The Vision, on the index. The Crown Jewel preview names Bron Breakker and Austin Theory as the champions against Penta and Je’Von Evans. Both wordings are WWE’s, published the same week. The desk reports the conflict instead of deciding that The Vision “is” those two and nobody else. Money in the Bank’s Oba Femi match describes The Vision coming to Bronson Reed’s aid and names Logan Paul and Maxxine Dupri and a chokeslam on Austin Theory. That is a faction scene. It is not a tag-title lineage.

WWE Tag Team Champions: The MFTs. No member list is on the index excerpt used here, so no member list is printed. Women’s Tag Team Champions: Michin and B-Fab. WWE’s October 23 results say they beat Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley. That is a sourced change. The older line that still had Bliss and Paxley as champions is stale relative to that results page and the current index.

NXT, from the same index, checked against Tuesday

Grayson Waller, NXT Champion, defends against Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc. Kelani Jordan, NXT Women’s Champion, defends against Wren Sinclair. Jackson Drake, North American Champion, beat EK Prosper on the October 27 NXT. Zaria, Women’s North American Champion, is in a non-title match against Izzi Dame on the Havoc preview, after she offered a title match and Dame refused. The Vanity Project are NXT Tag Team Champions. They lost a Dusty semifinal to Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno. WWE did not call that match a title match. Losing a tournament bout and losing the belts are different, and Tuesday’s results only support the first.

The index also lists Harlem Lewis as Evolve Men’s Champion and Nikkita Lyons as Evolve Women’s Champion. They are names on the page. This drop has no Evolve card, so the names are acknowledged and not narrated.

AEW, from the recaps rather than a single index

Will Ospreay is AEW World Champion, with a Clockwork Carnage retention mentioned and a tag loss that did not change the belt. Darby Allin is TNT Champion, with an announced defense against Josh Alexander on Fright Night Dynamite. Persephone is TBS Champion, announced against Queen Aminata the same night. Kazuchika Okada is International Champion in the October 21 recap. Jon Moxley is Continental Champion in both recaps. Mercedes Moné is Women’s World Champion; the October 21 recap says she had retained against Thekla at WrestleDream and was confronted by Marina Shafir. The Young Bucks are World Tag Team Champions even after losing an eliminator to Mark Davis and Jake Doyle, who earned a future shot. The new World Trios Champions are described as King, Page, and Bandido, the first three-time trios champions in the interview AEW printed, with a Full Gear rematch agreed and Texas Death refused.

The Brawling Birds are the Women’s World Tag Team Champions in the October 21 recap. The October 24 recap schedules Wrathlander against Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor for that title at Full Gear. Triangle of Madness are in a confirmed Blood and Guts match and, separately, are announced to defend the Artist of Stardom Championship on the October 31 Collision. That last belt is a STARDOM title on an AEW broadcast. It gets a match listing and not a fake lineage.

What the cut list is protecting

A clean table with a “champion since” column would look more like a reference site. It would also smuggle dates this desk did not verify. The choice is the messier paragraph. The calendar explainer shows where each of these people is supposed to be this week. The road map shows which belts are actually stipulated on the specials and which are only in the room. The standards are the rule that makes the omissions deliberate. If a promotion page later dates a reign, the file should gain the date and the link, not a memory of a roundup that was cut.

A title change that is not a title change

Three results this week look like title changes if you only read the winner. Gable’s team lost a tag match. The Vanity Project lost a Dusty semifinal. The Young Bucks lost an eliminator. In each case the promotion’s own wording kept the championship on the losing side or called the match something other than a title match. The eliminator explicitly earned Davis and Doyle a future shot, which only makes sense if the Bucks left as champions. The Dusty result advanced a tournament. The Raw tag result named Gable as Intercontinental Champion while describing him being taken out. The desk’s rule is to believe the label in the result, not the drama of the loss. That rule is why the index and the recaps can be stacked without a fake new champion appearing between them. It is also why Michin and B-Fab do count as a change: the October 23 result says they won the titles, and the index agrees. Same test, different outcome. Use it on the next drop before you rewrite a current-champion line.
